Covid-19 So Far

Yikes! It’s been a crazy couple of months. I hope you and your’s are safe and well. I just thought I’d let you all know what my partner and I have been up to in regards to our efforts toward the covid-19 pandemic.

We decided to make and give away headbands to help save frontline careworkers ears from being rubbed sore from the the elastic on their PPE facemasks. To make them more comfortable doing what was already a difficult and stresssful job. Numbers soon escalated and we both were working 10/12hr days to get the hundreds of requests sewn and out the door. It was a welcome distraction from everything if I’m honest, fast forward 7 weeks to the day that we started and we’ve worked nearly 300 hours making them. Wow! We had some amazing people that stepped up and helped us with what ended up being a mammoth task, complete strangers helping us sew headbands that we sent up and down the country, when I look back now, I can’t believe how many we all made between us, 1741.

We had help from my customers and the general public too, in the form of fabric, buttons and money donations, which meant we could just keep going until requests dwindled. I am so super proud of what we as one whole unit achieved, I am so thankful for everyone that helped us, everyone’s kind words, and of course everyone on the frontline doing their job day in day out.

A few other people have written about us, and I’d like to thank them too, you can read their articles here.

The Breaker  I particulary like this piece by Kerrie Hall because she recorded my interview with her, a nice unique way of reporting.

Things have gone quiet on the headband front now, an organic end to a massive project, my partner went back to work after being furloughed, so it’s me, the kids, homeschool and sewing. I’m so looking forward to schol holidays next week.

Peace, love & health
