Lockdown musings of a home school mum.
Hey guys! Welcome to my latest sporadic blog post of destiny! (maybe I will end up changing the title of this in around six months if I’m consistent). But if it’s anything like my normal ideas who knows. Let’s see how good my plate spinning skills are in 2021. I felt compelled to write this blog today because I feel like I’m winning for once and it feels great! I plan on documenting our lockdown life, working and homeschool.
This morning we managed to run-walk 3k. Annie scooted and Jake walked/ ran with me. He wasn’t happy at all and slowed me down, but to be fair it made my first run of the year a lot easier as I could walk quite a lot of it so I wasn’t too bothered! After Jake got over his grump for being made to exercise he set off to do his online learning. Quite a lot is done ‘live’ at set times, so that’s why we I was chuffed we managed to sneak out this morning between lessons. My daughter Annie excelled in her writing today and I think being dressed as a pirate really helped her.
Once we’ve done this we used left over mashed potato from last night’s dinner to make ‘krabby patties’. Of course I had to utilise the power of Google to help, which I depend on far too often, which is not only lazy, but bad for the environment too as uses power from big search engines/servers or something like that. Google is bad guys!! But considering the energy saving affects of my children being feral and being in their pants all day rather than endless laundry, I’m guessing it kinda equals itself out right now!
I digress, here’s the recipe for those krabby patties if you are interested. The kids really enjoyed having a little cooking session as it’s not something we do a lot together, usually I’m a total control freak! I even let them cut up the salad and then they chose how much was put on their plates (can you spot the salad dodger from the photo?). It was really good getting them involved and they enjoyed it, think I will do more of this if I can, so if you’ve got any recipes that are good for five and 12 year olds to help make, please leave me a comment at the bottom of this blog 😊
Surely today if you saw what was on the kitchen table you’d think I have finally gone absolutely crazy, I’ve let Annie bust out her new Kinetic sand kit while I’m writing this hiding in my bedroom with a cuppa. Lord knows what I’m going to go back to, Jake is loving it too. I guess we all know that with kinetic sand, paint and things like that all colours lead to brown in the end so we’ll see what that’s like but they are really having fun together which is cute because it’s not always like that. I have to remind them daily, but I guess the more chill I am, the more it’ll wear off on them. Right?
I love how I found I found time today to write this blog, it’s like I don’t have sewing to do…. Oh yeah I can’t at the minute as we’re in a lockdown v.3 and it’s just not ideal for me to try and sew while home schooling so at the minute I’m leaving that part of Loved Garms Clothing to weekends, I would say I work in the evenings too, but I’m absolutely bloody shattered by 5pm, I take my hat off to the teachers I don’t know how they manage it! Says me as I’m bribing my kids with Kinetic sand so I can write this….
Last lockdown I really didn’t rest at all so I’m really enjoying taking the time this lockdown to slow down and actually just home school my children and be this amazing domestic goddess.(LOL). I didn’t rest at all last time, we ended up sewing like crazy, making 1700 NHS headbands, which was great and kept us really busy but this time round I haven’t really had any request for them and so life is just a bit slower anyway. I’m sure tomorrow won’t be as amazingly productive at surviving home school as today, but we can hope.
How I plan on working for a bit
Steve is back working 6 days a week, so Sunday is my only real sewing day. I’m going to manage my time by doing small burst pre orders, I have set out a plan to keep things fresh and exciting, so it will just be a case of keeping your eye out via socials (or signing up for my newsletter) for the fabric you like and getting in there quick when the pre orders open.
I’m having a little bit of difficulty sourcing fabrics from Europe at the moment but I’ve got enough in my stash to last a good few months, (read that as years). Yet it didn’t stop me picking up these beauties from another work at home mum in her sale, so maybe keep an eye out for what pre orders they’ll be offered up as. I think people are liking my plans as I’ve already sold through on the Mystic Woodland leggings pre order, there is couple pairs of Leafy hues leggings left and of course all the of the other beautiful leggings that I have in stock ready to post, along with other bits and pieces like the kids leggings dungarees.
Anyway I best stop writing this and go and Hoover up that dratted sand, before I take proper photos of these fabrics. Hope you guys are staying safe! What would you make from these fabrics? Come join me over Loved Garms VIP group if you like, you’ll be able to see what I am up to, and what my customers are crushing on too.
